Reflexions with Agua Dulce

Believe it or not, not everyday of my life is filled with adventures. Sometimes it just consists of doing homework in an empty house with the dull sound of motorcycles, trucks, and barking dogs as my company. Sometimes it includes an afternoon rainstorm with humid air and the sound of raindrops slamming against the corrugated metal roof. Sometimes its just me, a book, and a cup of agua dulce to warm my stomach as the rain cools off the earth. Its nothing spectacular, just a day of my life. Sometimes I just reflect on my experience, all the while quietly sitting. Although there are noises outside reminding me of the lives around me, I am apart from them in the stillness of my thoughts.

Sometimes we are presented with extraordinary opportunities to leave our homes and begin a new adventure, an adventure that promises nothing less than to change our lives. However, the change that takes place is gradual, a process that takes place day by day. It is not as though we leave all who we were at the doorsteps of our homes before entering a new foreign one. No, we bring with us our thoughts, our customs, our hopes, our dreams and we share them with those around us. Undoubtedly I have changed since I left my home a month ago, but the change has occurred with each hour that has passed, with each small new experience that I have encountered. I haven't forsaken all of my thoughts, customs, hopes or dreams, but rather I have added to them. I am growing in who I was made to be through the challenges that I face and day by day no matter how uneventful they are. As I sit and reflect, I like what has changed within me, I like the direction in which I am headed. I want to keep growing.

Today is one of those ordinary days, but even today as I reflect, I know that I'm not the same person I was yesterday. But only by God's grace.
